Justin Chan is a Partner at KMB Law and a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Group.
From a decade of solo practice after articles with a Downtown litigation boutique, Justin has experience with a wide range of clients and acted in matters from disputes in contract, shareholder and partnership agreements to landlord and tenant and debt collection. He has appeared in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal on their behalf. Justin’s understanding of entrepreneurial approaches comes from his previous small solo practice where he offered part-time general counsel services. He worked closely with owner-managers of small and medium-sized enterprises focusing especially on cost efficacy as a major goal.
Judo is Justin’s passion and is the source of his fighting spirit that fuels his focus and steadfastness in the heat of litigation. He is a 4th degree Black Belt, Head Sensei of his own judo club, Head Coach of the Royal Military College Judo Club and a Member of the Board of Directors of Judo Ontario (and before that, the Chair of its Legal Committee). His fighters compete regularly at regional, national and international events. While at Cardiff Law School in Wales, he trained with the Welsh national judo team.
Justin is also fluent in French from a French immersion program when in middle and high school.
